Last season, Sassuolo began their life without coach De Zerbi producing the next-to-worst campaign in their now decennial Serie A history. In fact, they ended up with a poor 13th place finish, also due to one of the worst defences of the league, with 61 goals conceded. The truth is that they were never involved in the fight against relegation and were not bad at all in their day but were just too inconsistent as they would keep alternating positive to negative runs. Coach Alessio Dionisi, confirmed also for the new season, hopefully learned something from his rookie campaign, where he also made a few mistakes. Sassuolo first started their transfer campaign by hiring players like striker Pinamonti, only 5 goals and 1 assist but a great potential to display, and attacking midfielder Bajrami, who could be given a more relevant role this season, permanently. Then, they lost midfield-genius Frattesi, who left for Inter: Matheus should thus step up and become a starter, while newly-arrived Boloca, from Frosinone, could become a protagonist with the passing of time. They lost all their left-backs, Rogerio and Marchizza, and they hired Vina on loan. An alternative is missed, though. They are also on the hunt for a right-back as back-up Muldur returned to Turkey, Zortea to Atalanta and Missori is still too inexperienced. Moreover, Viti could become a protagonist in the heart of the defence since Ferrari and Ruan were at times disappointing. Among the new arrivals, goalie Cragno, coming from a forgettable campaign at Monza, attacking midfielder Volpato and striker Mulattieri all have the potential to become starters in due time.

Target

Aim at aquiet safety. Anything more seems pretty unrealistic since they have traded experience with youth this summer.
