Cambuur come from an excellent season which ended in 9th place. They were the biggest surprise of the Eredivisie, both considering that they were a newly promoted team, and because throughout the first part of the season they were consistently in the top 5. Then, especially due to the illness that forced coach Henk de Jong to leave, they had a decline. Not so good their path in KNVB Beker where they were eliminated by NEC already in the second round. As might be expected, there was little movement during the summer. The main changes concerned the departure of captain Erik Schouten and winger Issa Kallon. They replaced seasoned goalkeeper Sonny Stevens with the younger João Virgínia and reinforced the attack with former Heracles Almelo Silvester van der Water and promising Remco Balk. Good news is that Henk de Jong should be able to return on the bench. Not many indications have arrived from the pre-season, only three friendly games (one win, one draw and one defeat) against low-level teams.

Target

The goal will be to repeat the excellent past year, but it will not be easy since they will no longer be able to count on the surprise factor. However, the team seems well organized and complete in every sector, perhaps something is missing in midfield.
