For yet another year Freiburg defended their top flight status thanks to very solid home form, with coach Streich using his vast experience at the club to manage the players very well. Last season the main issues were related to the many injuries and, if Streich is cemented at the helm, about to start his ninth season in charge, the entire physical staff was replaced in the summer. The purpose was exactly to improve the prevention of injuries and hopes at the club are that this move will work. So far the incoming transfers are 2 full-backs, Schmid expected to become regular right-back down the season, and 2 South Korean wingers that will be swopping places on the pitch. With Waldschmidt emerging as the go-to-man in attack last season it was time for Niederlechner to leave, but even without him Freiburg have 4 solid strikers. Lack technical flare as usual, but Streich uses more direct approach anyway and one thing certain for Freiburg is that all the players that appear on the pitch will work extremely hard. Covering every blade of grass at home is characteristic of Freiburg’s displays and expectations are that at least in front of their own fans enough wins will be accumulated.

Target

Staying out of trouble is the usual goal and with experience manager at the helm and well-known solid home form Freiburg should be able to just about achieve that. Not enough quality in ranks to think for more.
