Tamworth begin the new season full of hope that better times are ahead and they will not have to come through the ordeal of relegation battle once again. Last season was a very difficult one as manager Gary Mills departed the club in October and his assistant Des Lyttle took charge. He could not steer the team to safety and was sacked with just three games left. Only a dramatic 2:1 win over Forest Green on the last day saved the Midlands club from relegation and now the hopes are for a more serene campaign. The brought in Marcus Law from neighbours Kettering as their new manager and he will look to boost his reputation after a good campaign with the Poppies last season. Law underwent a major surgery of the squad and only a handful of players from last season remain. Kyle Perry, Michael Wylde and Tom Marshall are the most significant departures but the new manager has been very impressive in his recruitment and the squad has a very interesting look with just a week of the campaign left. Promising keeper Jonathan Hedge was brought in from Halifax and will ensure continuity on goal after the team had to shuffle between loan keepers last season. Paul Green is a good players with a Football League experience who will bolster the back line while Ashley Cain and Kyle Patterson will bring sharpness to the wing play. Nabil Shariff is an interesting prospect who showed flashes of potential at Rushden & Diamonds last season and could develop into a fine strike but the experience of former player Iyseden Christie, who re-joined in the summer, will be important too. Overall, Tamworth looked really well placed to stay up this season and provided that Law stays put during the campaign, the Lambs fans are bound for some exciting times.

Target


Tamworth are definitely too good to go down with the current squad and with an able and ambitious young manager like Marcus Law, they can definitely target a place in the upper mid-table.
