In Brief

Two new signings scheduled for debuts. Gabriel, Wilshere, Cazorla, Campbell and the big star Sanchez set to miss, although rumours suggest that Sanchez could feature. Coquelin and Mustafi fresh concerns. The former ruled out. Koscielny won’t be suspended

Looking Back

Ever since Arsenal changed their formation to 3-4-2-1 in spring they have been very successful and the Gunners won eight of their nine official matches after that happened, including the FA Cup final vs. Chelsea.

Wenger’s resigning in charge surprised many, but the Frenchman couldn’t know his squad better and he will be ready for the challenges right from the off. After all this will be his record-breaking twenty-first campaign at the helm of the Gunners.

Had solid pre-season with some decent results, but also looked shaky defensively at times.

Looking Ahead

Koscielny’s red card from the FA Cup final means that he will be suspended now, but from FA corrected the information and he can play in this game.

The best player for the past two years Sanchez only just resumed training after an extended summer break and he is behind with his fitness, but might make an appearance. Gabriel, Wilshere, Campbell and Cazorla are also ruled out.

Mustafi lacks fitness and threatens to sit out, with Coquelin fresh concern after sustaining a face injury during one of the last friendlies. Coquelin will miss this game.

Both newcomers Kolasinac and Lacazette are set for debuts.

Points of Interest

Last season Arsenal actually edged Chelsea in the head-to-heads after winning two of their three clashes. If Oxlade-Chamberlain is to take part he will be used in a deep position as a wing-back.

In Brief

Costa deemed unwanted and not expected to feature. Hazard, Bakayoko and Baba start season sidelined. Pedro might take part. Moses won’t be suspended. At least two newcomers expected to make debuts in this match.

Looking Back

Despite the won title last season Chelsea were not very convincing in London derbies, losing against all of West Ham, Crystal Palace, Tottenham and Arsenal during the 2016/17 season. In fact they were beaten twice by the Gunners.

The atmosphere in the dressing room is not very good after ongoing turmoil that started this summer.

Looking Ahead

Moses’ red card from the lost FA Cup final won’t be counted for this game and he can play, but the top goalscorer for the last two campaigns Diego Costa is at odds with Conte and he won’t be used.

Hazard, Bakayoko and Baba start the season sidelined, while Pedro was subbed in a recent friendly due to a face problem. He might play with the help of a protection mask, but this is not certain at all.

Chelsea already completed four major signings this summer, from them Rudiger and Morata have high hopes to be involved, with veteran Caballero also a possible option for the role between the sticks.

Points of Interest

Chelsea seem to be struggling for attacking options at the minute and they most likely will rely on slightly more passive tactics in this one, looking to hurt Arsenal on fast breaks. Willian showed sizzling form in pre-season with his 4 goals and 2 assists.
