Game Report

Highlights

Olivier Giroud was excellent as he scored all four goals in a 4-0 Chelsea win at Sevilla. The first half was fairly even as Giroud scored his first before a good Sevilla response. But, Chelsea dominated the second half and Giroud netted his other three to complete this win.

Detail

A last-minute change saw third-choice Sevilla goalkeeper Alfonso Pastor have to play. He wasn't, though, at fault for the four goals conceded. That was on the overall team performance.

Chelsea started well. In the first minute, they even put a dangerous cross in for the young goalkeeper to have to deal with. Before long, Giroud got the first of his four goals.

Sevilla's response to going one goal down was good. They finished the first half strong and had several half-chances as they tried to equalise.

In the second half, Chelsea stepped it up. They pressed high and created problems for Sevilla, with Giroud scoring another. The Sevilla defence couldn't cope with his movement.

At that point, with Chelsea two goals up, Sevilla brought on several of the starters that they'd rested as they aimed to avoid a thrashing. That didn't happen, though.

Giroud got his hat-trick from open play and then another from the penalty spot after he was fouled by Sergi Gomez, a penalty that he himself converted.

Summary

Sevilla fielded a weakened team, but they'll still be very disappointed with this performance. They had no response for Giroud and were throughout outplayed and defeated.
