  • Three-time champions Germany are hosting the 17th edition of the UEFA European Championships this summer at Euro 2024 which begins on Friday 14th June.
  • The likes of England, France and Germany are the current frontrunners to lift the trophy come 14th July.
  • Italy are the defending champions having beaten England on penalties at Wembley Stadium at Euro 2020.
  • The final of Euro 2024 will take place at Olympiastadion, Berlin on Sunday 14th July.

Euro 2024 begins this week, and so now is the perfect time to get ready for Europe’s major international tournament. Football fans around the world have been anticipating the competition, and England fans in particular will be dreaming of ending their 58 years of hurt. Will Euro 2024 finally be the year they claim their first trophy since 1966?

Nations such as France, Germany and Portugal all have strong squads as well, and they will prove extremely difficult to beat. With Die Mannschaft being the host nation, they will feel confident in overturning their series of lacklustre displays at major international tournaments of late. Will Julian Nagelsmann be able to lead Germany to their first Euros glory since 1996?

Reigning champions Italy are not expected to be able to defend their crown, but former Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti will be hoping to make the most out of a squad lacking too much gumption. It’s time to dive into our Euro 2024 preview and predictions now as we provide you with tips ahead of the start of the tournament!

Group A Prediction

Germany to top Group A

Host nations always have a big advantage heading into major tournaments. Germany are always a feared side heading into any competition, and with the support of their own crowd, the expectation is that they will deliver. Nagelsmann has been blessed with an abundance of top talent across his side in the form of Jamal Musiala, Toni Kroos and Kai Havertz. Having underwhelmed at the last three successive major tournaments, now is the time for Germany to bounce back. As a result, expect Die Mannschaft to top Group A with ease.

Switzerland continue to deliver

The Rossocrociati knocked out heavyweights France at Euro 2020, and only narrowly lost on penalties to semi-finalists Spain at the quarter-final stage. The Swiss cannot be overlooked. The likes of Yann Sommer, Granit Xhaka and Manuel Akanji all had superb domestic campaigns for their respective club teams, and that spine will carry them into the knockouts once again here.

Group A Table Prediction

  1. Germany
  2. Switzerland
  3. Hungary
  4. Scotland

Group B Prediction

Spain to come out on top in ‘group of death’

Group B is one of the most competitive groups at Euro 2024. Spain, Italy and Croatia all feature alongside huge outsiders Albania. La Roja boast an incredibly strong side with elite talent in every position. Names such as Alejandro Grimaldo, Rodri, Pedri, Alvaro Morata and Dani Olmo are the standouts.

Spain have started to get back to their best of late, and only narrowly lost on penalties against Italy during the semi-finals of Euro 2020. A lack of firepower may be an issue, but Luis de la Fuente’s men have been full of goals of late.

Italy pip Croatia to second-place

Although the Azzurri are without their star veteran defenders Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci that led them to a Euro 2020 triumph, they still have a very talented side. Spalletti is a top class coach, and he should make the most of out players such as Nicolo Barella, Alessandro Bastoni and Gianluca Scamacca. Despite the midfield being hindered by the loss of Sandro Tonali, there’s still enough in the squad to see them finish as runners-up in Group B ahead of an ageing Croatia side that is lacking quality up top.

Group B Table Prediction

  1. Spain
  2. Italy
  3. Croatia
  4. Albania

Group C Prediction

Three Lions ease into knockout rounds

England are the clear favourites to top Group C, and although there are concerns about their defence, they should comfortably top this group and enter the Round of 16. The elite talent going forward is simply spectacular. Games against Denmark and Serbia will likely be close and hard-fought, but the Three Lions should come out on top.

It’s Serbia’s time

Having failed to produce any significant result at a major tournament since having an independent national team in 2006, Serbia will be desperate to finally achieve success at Euro 2024. They have some serious players in their team such as Dusan Vlahovic, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Sergej Milinkovic Savic. Back them to come out ahead of a Denmark team that finished bottom of their group at the 2022 World Cup.

Group C Table Prediction

  1. England
  2. Serbia
  3. Denmark
  4. Slovenia

Group D Prediction

Les Bleus continue to shine

It’s France. It’s Didier Deschamps. It’s Kylian Mbappe. There’s not too much more to add. Les Bleus have everything in the locker to win Euro 2024. They have the experience, top-tier talent and a world-class coach. It will be a shock if they fail to win the group, and they will be disappointed not to at least reach the final this summer.

The Dutch edge through

Strong Netherlands sides have failed to perform in the past, like at Euro 2012. Ronald Koeman hasn’t exactly set the world alight of late either, and the Dutch looked a level below France during qualification. Both Frenkie de Jong and Teun Koopmeiners have recently been ruled out of the tournament, meaning their midfield has all of sudden weakened significantly. Still, they have enough quality in their side to just about secure second-place in Group D.

Group D Table Prediction

  1. France
  2. Netherlands
  3. Austria
  4. Poland

Group E Prediction

Tedesco’s Red Devils to prosper

Domenico Tedesco is yet to suffer a defeat as Belgium boss, and he has led his team to impressive wins over the likes of Germany, Sweden and Austria since he took over from Roberto Martinez. Kevin De Bruyne is still in the squad, alongside players such as Leandro Trossard and Charles De Ketelaere who had excellent domestic campaigns for their clubs. They should top Group E, and they have a great shot at going deep into the tournament.

Dark Horses Romania

Heading into Euro 2024 with just one loss over their last 15 games means Romania have excellent momentum. They should be one of the tournament's dark horses. Edward Iordănescu’s side isn’t exactly flushed with talent, but they finished ahead of Switzerland during qualification, conceding only five goals in ten games. Romania could certainly give Slovakia and Ukraine a run for their money.

 Group E Table Prediction

  1. Belgium
  2. Romania
  3. Ukraine
  4. Slovakia

Group F Prediction

Crescent Stars stun Euro 2016 winners

The big surprise of the Euro 2024 group stage could be Turkey topping Group F. The Crescent Stars finished ahead of Croatia during qualification, meaning they should be taken seriously. However, they will need a much better display this summer compared to their Euro 2016 and Euro 2020 group stage exits. With that being said, Hakan Calhanoglu should dictate things in the middle of the park and could help lead a surprise Group F win.

Portugal sneak in as runners-up

Despite the fact Portugal have a star-studded squad, the fact that they still keep playing Cristiano Ronaldo will hamper their chances. Recent defeats against Slovenia and Croatia prove they have weaknesses, and there’s a good chance they may labour during the group stage. Nevertheless, they’ll still get through to the Round of 16.

Group F Table Prediction

  1. Turkey
  2. Portugal
  3. Czech Republic
  4. Georgia
