Football Season Review

№24: Bradford City

Bradford entered the season hoping for a play-off place but not really knowing what to expect following their poor showing in the second half of the previous campaign, and their board's decision to give the unproven Michael Collins a shot as their manager. Even more controversy followed when the board opted to part ways with Collins in early September, only six league games into the season, out of which the Bantams won two. The Bantams opted to replace Collins with David Hopkin, who initially struggled but oversaw his side go through a run in December during which they won four out of five and looked set to move out of the relegation zone. However, things took a turn for the worse after that, with Hopkin opting to resign from his post after seeing his men suffer a 3:2 defeat at Walsall in a late February game in which they were two goals and a man up. Relegation already seemed imminent at this stage, and the Bantams opted to appoint the experienced Gary Bowyer and give him a two-year contract with an obvious intent to plan for life in League Two next season.
