Football Season Review

№17: CD Nacional

Insulares are back to the second league and one can't say it's a surprise. From early on, the lack of quality in several areas and the inability to avoid defensive mistakes announced this ending. Costinha was kept during all season despite the bad results. However, in this case, one wonders if a move wouldn't be beneficial, as Costinha was taking options hard to understand, like the illogical rotation in attack. Nacional never had something close to a strongest eleven, and that brought more confusion and instability than a surprise effect on the opponents, if that was what Costinha was aiming for. Injuries were aplenty. The medical department was very busy during all season, sometimes having 9 or 10 first team players unavailable on treatment. Even in matches where the team was having good spells of attacking football, a defensive mistake would always make it all worthless. And there were a lot of defensive silly mistakes during the entire season. It’s hard to imagine what will be the next season in Segunda Liga, as it is highly expected that most people will leave, including coach Costinha himself. Vítor Gonçalves and Marakis were decent in their delivery. Witi and particularly João Camacho were frequently ready to finally have a run of great form, but for some reason they kept being rotated. Rochez, also frequently benched, still managed to get an impressive 11 goals sum.
