Football Season Review

№13: Vitoria de Setubal

Another tight season, this time saved one week earlier than usual. Vitória’s fans should be accostumed to suffering all season, and this time was not different. Lito Vidigal left in the middle of the season to join Boavista, and Sandro replaced him. The two were unable to prevent a difficult run of 12 games with no wins that made the fans fear for the worst. With just three victories in 16 matches, Sandro didn’t find the winning way for Setúbal, but at least he gave the side a defensive stability that allowed Setúbal to slowly find their path into another season in Primeira Liga. With Sandro in charge, Setúbal never conceded more than a goal per match except in extraordinary circumstances: against two big teams, the freak match at Bessa and the last round when already saved. Vasco Fernandes was the leader of the team with a very regular season. The captain missed only one match on suspension, having been the defensive reference in all other 2970 minutes. Éber Bessa was the source for creativity in midfield as Rúben Micael had a poorer season than expected. Jhonder Cadiz was irregular, but showed enough quality for Benfica to sign with him already. Next season is not expected to be any easier for Sadinos. The group should again suffer a few changes due to the end of loan contracts and some aging players.
