Football Season Review

№18: CD Feirense

An absolute disappointment. After two pleasant seasons under Nuno Manta’s command, Fogaceiros had one of those seasons that are very hard to explain. Feirense broke – by far – the negative record of consecutive games without winning. They seemed stronger than in the previous season, with more options available and not losing any significant player from the backbone of last season. However, the performance was catastrophic. There were a lot of long injuries - Caio Secco and Bruno Brígido simultaneously in goal. Also Luís Machado, Babanco, Edson, Tiago Mesquita, Edinho, Sturgeon, Crivellaro... but nothing can justify 31 consecutive games without winning. In a desperate move, Nuno Manta was replaced by Filipe Martins, but the results became even worst. On the pitch, the players didn’t even seem unmotivated, but somehow they kept losing. Caio Secco (when available) and Briseño confirmed their talent; Edson was a good surprise as right-back; Aly Ghazal was an important adding to midfield. And Tiago Silva had his most regular season. Still, it was all hopeless. It is expected that Feirense will suffer a complete makeover on the squad, since most players have offers from top flight teams. It will be crucial to make the right decisions in this next season not to lose the momentum created in the past three years.

Player of the Season: Tiago Rafael Silva
