Football Season Review

№18: St. Pauli

Bottom of the pack St Pauli did well at the start with their great commitment and motivation, but lack of resources at the club and lack of technical ability among the players ultimately found them wanting. The Hamburg outfit´s worst moment came on the second last day when they were hammered and humiliated in front of their own followers to the tune of 1-8 by a rampant Bayern Munich. Their team coach not surprisingly stepped down from his post after such a battering. The longer the season wore on, the more difficult it became for the minnows, who just didn’t dispose of a squad in sufficient depth to go the pace at Bundesliga level. Experienced forward Gerald Asamoah did his best to get the Hamburg side to tick but it was to no avail in the end. They did enjoy one moment of glory when beating their bitter rivals Hamburg for the first time in years, but it was small consolation considering they finally ended up bottom of the league.
