Football Season Review

№12: VFB Stuttgart

When it comes to recoveries, few can compare with that of Stuttgart´s. The Swabians were struggling in the relegation zone for most of the season but a change in team coach soon effected a turnaround. Indeed, he was responsible for one of the most impressive turnarounds in the club´s history. New team boss Labbadia got Stuttgart recording one victory after another and they gradually clambered up table to 12th position, after earlier looking doomed. One victory after another enabled the Swabians to move out of the danger zone and up table. Spurred on by Timo Gebhart and Christian Traesch, the Swabians really did give a good account of themselves in the latter part. Even German international veteran Cacau played his part as the Labbadia magic worked miracles. One of the purchases of the season was that of Tamas Hajnal who provided the necessary presence in midfield that the Swabians have so long lacked. It could be a quite different Stuttgart outfit next season, if they can sort out some glaring defensive frailties, which have cost them many valuable points throughout the season.
