Last season was far from impressive. Biggest glory was to see their arch-rivals Cruzeiro being relegated. A mid-table position in the end left the fans demanding much more, and the club decided to invest heavily for 2020. 'O Galo' hired the highly reputed Jorge Sampaoli after the impact he had in 2019 with Santos. The charismatic Argentinean will definitely bring the team to the next level, but he is also erratic enough to cost the team some points on the road. Team is expected to be shifting formation and shape from one round to the other, and present very unusual and unpredictable strategies. Galo is also expected to be one of the most thrilling teams to follow this season, regardless of results. The fans should be demanding a very successful season after the big investment made on the squad. Players like Arana, Allan, Savarino, Tardelli or Keno were definitely too expensive for the team to settle for something other than great, this season. Elias, Chará and Ricardo Oliveira left the club. They were certainly important in the past, but they would find it very hard to be relevant in the current squad, so the fans should not regret any departs, this season. On top of the excellent coach Sampaoli and the important stash of new signings, the squad will still count with some exciting players like Rabelo, Réver, Guga, Jair or Otero. It will be interesting to see what Sampaoli can make of the irregular but highly skilled playmaker Cazares. Sampaoli's style will surely clash with some impatient and old-styled fans. Should the results take some time to appear, instability can quickly take over. There's an evident lack for a true striker in the squad. Attacking options aren't many and are generally very light-weighted.

Target

This team has all the makings to be one of the strongest challengers for Flamengo, this season. They should find it hard to go all the way for the title already in first year, but they are solid candidates for top-3.
