Bourg-en-Bresse did superbly in their debut Ligue 2 campaign in 2015-16, finishing comfortably in mid-table. However, perhaps the real test begins now for a team who are no longer a surprise package and who have lost key members of last season's squad, not least leading scorer Pape Sane, who has joined Caen in Ligue 1. Rafik Boujedra, Aliou Dembele, Baba Traore, Florent Ogier and Mickael Alphonse have all moved on as well. Coach Herve Della Maggiore has nevertheless made some interesting signings as he looks to rebuild the team, including forward Wilfried Louisy-Daniel, scorer of 15 goals in the third tier last season for Chambly and experienced midfielder Thomas Gamiette and young Lyon midfielder Romain Del Castillo, brought in on loan. The aim is to avoid relegation. "The objective is survival, but we want to keep making progress," says coach Della Maggiore. "It would be another great achievement to stay up but we are confident after what we did last season."

Target

Survival.
