Nimes have finished in the bottom half in Ligue 2 in each of the last three campaigns but last season's effort was particularly worthy of note for the Crocodiles as they had started out with an eight-point deduction as a punishment for past match-fixing offences. Under Bernard Blaquart, Nimes must look to build despite losing some key players. It is a familiar story for clubs at this level. Steve Mounie, Anthony Koura and Toifilou Maoulida scored 24 league goals between them last season but all have moved on, with Koura joining Nancy and Mounier returning to parent club Montpellier. Blaquart has moved to strengthen, however, and Rachid Alioui will be hoping to build on the promise he displayed at Laval last season while on loan from EA Guingamp. Gael Angoula and Slimane Sissoko both arrive from being bit-part players in Ligue 1 with Angers SCO, while Zie Diabate was a solid performer in the second tier last season with AC Ajaccio. The 21-year-old Sada Thioub netted six times last season with CA Bastia in the third tier, while young defender Fabien Garcia also makes the step up from the third tier as he joins from Sedan. Regulars at the Stade des Costieres will be hoping for a less turbulent campaign and Blaquart is eyeing a place in the top 10.

Target
