Dundee’s return to the Premiership proved short-lived. Poor results saw manager James McPake sacked in February. A chaotic spell with Mark McGhee in charge only speeded their relegation with only 1 win in their final 17 matches. Gary Bowyer is now in charge and expected to take them straight back up. Despite his affection for the club, veteran midfielder Charlie Adam has left along with experienced defenders Elliot and Fontaine. Also heading out of Dens Park are experienced attackers McDaid and Mullen. These were 5 regular starters who will prove difficult to replace. Bowyer has remained calm since securing the manager’s position and resisted the temptation to sign a flurry of players. Striker Zak Rudden has completed the formality of making his signing from Partick Thistle to a permanent basis. Versatile Tyler French is Bowyer’s first signing after 40 appearances for Wrexham in the National League. It’s fully expected Bowyer will use his extensive contacts to bring in more players from England. Dundee are making a fresh start with Bowyer. He is widely respected but something of an unknown quantity in Scotland. There’s a huge burden of expectation at Dundee and anything but a winning and convincing start will put him under immense pressure. There are many questions to be answered at Dundee.

Target

Nothing but promotion back to the Premiership will satisfy Dundee. However, their stature in the Scottish game is waning and few teams fear going to Dens Park.
