Guingamp’s finish of 11 last season was entirely disappointing given they had hoped to challenge for the playoffs. They won only 1 of their last 14 matches and picked up only 1 point from their last 7 matches. Numerous serious injuries did not help and these perhaps helped spare the job of Sylvain Ripoll. So far, the changes that Guingamp have made have largely seen players depart the club, with no especially eye-catching signings made. On the other hand, regular starters Sohaib Nair, Kalidou Sidibe and 15-goal attacker Louis Mafouta, who scored 9 more than anyone else last term, have all departed. The momentum has continued in pre-season for Guingamp, who have suffered defeats in all 3 friendlies they have played, showing the same shortcomings of inefficiency they did last season. On the plus side, key player Amine Hemia is back from an ACL injury. Technically, Guingamp are a strong team that is capable of controlling games. They finished 4th in the league in terms of possession last season. Inefficiency plagues this squad of players. Last season, they hit the target with only 31.9% of their shots, while they were also prone to giving away cheap goals at the other end of the field due to individual errors.
