Ben Chrisene is the latest youngster to graduate from the Exeter City youth system, following his move to Aston Villa. Chrisene follows in the footsteps of Matt Grimes, Ollie Watkins and Ethan Ampadu and the development of talented young players continues to serve the Grecians well. They remain in Trust control and with finances tightly controlled. This financial acumen will be essential as the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic are felt. Matt Taylor’s first season in charge was a qualified success and there is plenty of cause for optimism ahead of the new season. Wembley remains an unhappy place for them having been completely outplayed in the League 2 play-off final by Northampton Town in June. The Grecians were well in the hunt for automatic promotion before the premature end to the last campaign and there is no reason why they can’t challenge again. Taylor will rely again on the experience of Jake Taylor, Nicky Law and Nigel Atangana in the middle of the park whilst Randell Williams provides the creativity and flair on the flanks. There are question marks over both Jonny Maxted and Lewis Ward in goal whilst more youngsters are set to be given their opportunity to impress in the first team this season.
