Fiorentina had a strange last season. In fact, they achieved a final 6th place and a qualification to the Conference League but it looked as a disappointment compared with the two previous campaigns under coach Italiano, which led to two lost European finals. Coach Raffaele Palladino was never loved during his season in charge, especially since his boys were always too discontinuous and gave up on the fight for a top 4 finish way too soon. At the beginning of February, though, the Viola were still fighting for a place in the sun. They subsequently went through 2 more crises and eventually contented themselves with a last-gasp European spot, stolen from Lazio. Palladino was unregrettingly let go and they hired Stefano Pioli in his stead. The former Milan coach thus returns to Italian football after a short-lived Saudi Arabian experience. Talking about their transfer campaign, in goal they lost back-up Terracciano and they are still looking for a replacement. Centre-back Viti, on loan from Nice, should become a protagonist in the heart of the defence, alongside Comuzzo and Ranieri, with Pongracic and Marì, both injury-prone, acting as back-ups. There is still need of a back-up full-back, though. In the midfield, they lost starting Bove, who suffered from a heart issue, and Cataldi, together with back-up Adli, all returning to their parent clubs. Sohm, arriving from Parma, is set to become a leader, together with Fagioli, fully acquired from Juventus. Depth is also needed in this department. Starting attacking midfielder Colpani was also let go, such as back-up Zaniolo as they were both disappointing. Talented Fazzini arrived from a mixed season at Empoli while Gudmundsson, now fully theirs, is expected to make a quantum leap after triggering a few doubts after joining in from Genoa. With 25 goals scored overall, striker Kean proved to be their major satisfaction last season but he simply lacked a deputy: 39-year-old Dzeko, who keeps scoring tons of goals, thus returned to Italy after some time in Turkey.

Target

If they fill the remaining holes, they could fight for a top 6 finish or more.
