Lokomotiv Moscow finished the season on a high as they claimed silverware with the Russian Cup and just about edged Krasnodar at second place, which secured group stage Champions League football for a second season running. Yet, Yuri Semin is not in the best of mood ahead of the new season as the transfer dealings have been limited and the squad looks somewhat shallow at the moment. Manuel Fernandes and Igor Denisov have moved on and the midfield does seem a bit inexperienced, even if the Railwaymen did well to complete the full purchase of Grzegorz Krychowiak after a strong season on loan last year. Loko still look pretty decent in the final third and in Aleksey and Anton Miranchuk, they have the luxury of two home-grown players who have been at the top of the pack in the league in their position and are quite prolific as well. There is lack of depth at the back at the moment, with Murilo unlikely to be ready to play a part immediately and the other players on the wrong side of 30 and injury prone.

Lokomotiv will be chasing the title without a doubt and will be determined to make a strong start, unlike last year, as they have been probably the best team in the league over the last six months.
