Mattersburg are one of the biggest unknowns of the Bundesliga going into the new season, due to the simple fact that they have shown two completely contrasting faces during the previous campaign. One thing that is certain is that Ivica Vastic's men do not have momentum going for them, as they have had a truly abysmal second half of the season and only managed to beat the drop thanks to the point tally that they accumulated in the first half of the campaign. Known for being a well organized and frugal club, it is hardly a surprise that they have once again had hardly any transfer activity. A notable member of their starting eleven has left in Manuel Prietl, but they have signed a decent-looking signing in Wolfsberger's now ex man Manuel Seidl. Ivica Vastic, who has been at their helm for more than two and a half years now, is expected to receive more patience than most Bundesliga managers would, both due to his name and popularity and due to the success that he has had with the club so far. However, the former Austrian international certainly finds himself under pressure going into the new season - Mattersburg have been playing poorly for a while now and, unless the summer break results in them resetting and getting back to their best, they may well be dragged into the battle against the drop.

Target

Their primary goal will be to escape the drop. If they get back to their best, they might have a chance of aiming for more than that, but it has been a while since they last played good football.
