Peterborough are set for their third consecutive season in League One, after their previous two campaigns followed a similar pattern, as they started well enough, only to get worse as time elapsed. Darren Ferguson was unable to keep hold of his job this time, as he was duly replaced by caretaker manager Dave Robertson this spring. Robertson managed to get the Posh into the top six at one point but was ultimately unsuccessful to finish inside the play-off places. The club board was obviously pleased with Robertson work despite his failure to secure promotion, as they decided to appoint him their new permanent boss following the end of the previous season. Robertson will be fully aware that the Posh board will not be nearly as forgiving as they were last time around if things do not go well this season - the club's ambition for the new season will clearly be to win promotion, and he will be expected to deliver it. Peterborough's squad has not changed too much during the summer, as no important players have left, while they have continued utilizing their transfer strategy of bringing in relatively unknown players. This approach saw them strike gold on several occasions over the last few years, with Marcus Maddison being the latest example of this, but we will have to wait and see if there are some genuine gems among the list of their summer signings. Even if all of Peterborough's summer signings flop, they will still have a good enough squad to push for promotion, and Robertson will have no excuses if he fails to get the Posh to challenge.

Target

A top six place will be seen as a bare minimum, and they will also be hoping for direct promotion. They have been far from a stable club over the recent years, and the biggest question mark hanging over them is whether or not their players will be able to play to their full potential.
