Fleetwood's first-ever season in the third tier was a rather successful one, as the Fishermen easily managed to secure their League One status for another year, while occasionally even looking like breaking into the play-off race. Graham Alexander has received a lot of praise for the good work that he has done with the squad, but we are now set to see whether he can help the club make another step forward and push for a place in the Championship, which would represent a historical success. Fleetwood have had a rather busy summer which saw them getting rid of some of their most experienced players whose stock has fallen during the course of the previous season, with the list of such names including the likes of Mark Roberts, Steven Schumacher and Stephen Crainey. They have made a number of interesting signings, with Amari'i Bell and Jimmy Ryan both being established League One players who are all but certain to become regular starters for them, and the other arrivals being promising players who are currently unknowns at League One level. Given the fact that none of the players who have left were particularly important for Fleetwood near the end of the previous season, they certainly seem to be stronger than they were last time around. It remains to be seen whether or not that will be enough for them to make the play-offs.

Target

A top half finish will be seen as a bare minimum, and they will have outside hopes of breaking into the play-off battle.
