VPS narrowly missed out on a top 6 finish last season. Unfortunate in that respect but it gave them the opportunity to test many youngsters in the subsequent play-off that was of little meaning otherwise. Coach Nuorela, the longest serving manager in the entire Veikkausliiga right now (in charge of VPS since 2021), lost some important players this winter. Fall, the only player to score in double digits in 2025 (10 goals), main anchor-man Ahiabu, the two main wing-backs Reid and Cicale, as well as the two main goalies are no longer in the squad. It has been busy winter as a result and at least 4-5 quality new arrivals were found. The main strengthening seems to be in attack. Trio of new centre forwards suggest that VPS plan to have much better scoring record this season. Jayden Turfkruier and Kevin Kouassivi-Benissan signed to fill the void at the flanks. They are both used to operate as wing-backs and will fit in Nuorela’s preferred 3-4-2-1 shape. Okereke and Mane provide depth in defence. The former will fit smoothly as he used to start at Mariehman only when 3-man defence was used, which is exactly what VPS use most of the time. Raisanen will likely be given much more advanced role this year. Natural holding midfielder until recently he excellent in the play-offs last autumn when trusted to operate on the shoulder of the strikers.

Target

Could struggle but also could easily be the dark horse in the race for the medals. It will all depend how well the new players fit in.
