Despite finishing in 6th, last season was a disappointing one for Vitória. Coach Pepa arrived surrounded by great expectation, but there was always the feeling that the team was lacking motivation and proper organization. A few injury problems didn’t help either. Like in previous seasons, there has been quite a few moves in this summer. Next season is, therefore, a big question mark. Starting in dugout. Pepa was surprisingly sacked just a few weeks before the season started. Former Vitória centre-half, Moreno will assume the job coming from a good year with B-team but with no experience in any top flight team. Goalkeeper was the only position without any moves. Therefore, Varela will remain the main option. At the back Mikel is coming from Santa Clara to replace Borevkovic, after the Croatian was highly disappointing last season. Japanese left-back Ogawa arrives to replace Rafa Soares (whose defensive skills were always questioned by the fans). André André and Amoah aren’t part of Moreno’s plans and André Almeida is heavily linked with a move to Porto. The midfield looks weaker, as no major name arrived to compensate this (possible) departures. 21-years old Handel may be having his affirmation but will need to stay out of injuries. In attack, things look slightly better, despite Rochinha, Estupiñan and Bruno Duarte having left. André Silva had a great season with Arouca and is promise for goals for ‘Conquistadores’. Anderson Oliveira is also a great addition for the striker position. The pacey Jota Silva is a great prospect for the wings, where Rúben Lameiras remains a reference.

Target

Guimarães won’t settle for worse than a 5th place this season. However, the competence of current squad and coach is slightly questionable.
