In Brief

Mehmet and Toshney still sidelined. Booth, Frans and Fyvie all expected available. Watson recalled and scores but slight doubt. No further injury or suspension news.

Looking Back

United proved they have become stronger and wiser under the direction of Robbie Neilson as they defeated Ross County 1-0 in Dingwall. There was little between the teams but Paul Watson grabbed the only goal of the game. United then managed the game perfectly as they didn't allow County to find any rhythm.

In the Championship United could only manage a 1-1 draw with Alloa back in early September. They took the lead with a Paul Watson header, but couldn't hold on for the win at Recreation Park as Alloa hit back. This was the start of a bad spell for United where they only had one win in five games.

United and Alloa also met in the Betfred Cup and IRN-BRU Cup earlier this season. Both of these games also finished 1-1, but Alloa won both ties on penalties. United fielded slightly weakened teams in these games and paid the price.

Looking Ahead

United will still be without injured goalkeeper, Deniz Mehmet, and defender, Lewis Toshney. Neither is expected back in action until next year.

Frederick Frans (calf) and Callum Booth (hamstring) failed to make the squad last week. However, both have trained and are expected to be available. Paul Watson returned to United's defence and scored the winner last week. However, he sustained a twisted knee and is a slight doubt.

Fraser Fyvie (hamstring) also limped off in the bruising game against Ross County last week. However, he's been training and is expected to be ready.

Points of Interest

United have not met Alloa in a league fixture at Tannadice since 1960.

In Brief

Flannigan available. Second win of the season achieved. No major changes expected. Defeat in IRN-BRU Cup. Loan players all available. No fresh team news.

Looking Back

Alloa won only their second game of the season with a deserved 2-0 win away at Cappielow. Their tactics worked perfectly as they allowed Morton to attack and become increasingly frustrated. Towards the end Alloa countered and won two penalties which Alan Trouten and Iain Flannigan converted.

Alloa have met United three times this season. They drew 1-1 in the Championship with Iain Flannigan scoring a late equaliser. They also met in both the Betfred Cup and IRN-BRU Cup earlier this season with both games ending 1-1. Alloa went on to win both ties on penalties.

The win at Morton sees Alloa climb into eighth place - their highest of the season. Two wins and two draws in the last six fixtures shows they are coming to terms with the Championship. However, they failed to build on the win with a defeat on penalties against Edinburgh City in the IRN-BRU Cup despite racing into a 2-0 lead.

Looking Ahead

Alloa have no significant injury issues ahead of their midweek game with Dundee United. All of their loan players who weren't eligible to play against Edinburgh City are available: Burt, Hastie, Roscoe and Shields.

Iain Flannigan returned from a knock to play the full 90 minutes against Morton last week. He scored a penalty too and is available to face Dundee United in midweek.

Alloa's second win of the season means they have climbed to eighth place and are now only four points behind Dunfermline. Form is improving and if one of their forwards can find some scoring form, then the fight at the bottom of the table could prove very interesting.

Points of Interest

Alloa have not played in the same division as United since 1959/60. However they have met in 12 cup ties since then with Alloa winning the two most recent.
