In Brief

Crisis in Sao Paulo at the moment. Jonathas and Danilo Avelar joined the team, Sidcley and Maycon both teamed up with Ukrainian sides. Cassio is set to start, while Fagner could return to action as well.

Looking Back

Title holder Corinthians had to deal with a packed schedule before the World Cup, which clearly affected some of the performances. The Sao Paulo outfit failed to impress in most games, which even resulted in an eleven-point gap with Flamengo.

Sidcley and Maycon, two regulars in the team, left the club recently and the club responded by adding Jonathas and Danilo Avelar to the squad. Bouncing back with be Corinthians' main mission from now on.

The lack of form remains a worry though as Corinthians only collected two points out of their last four Serie A matches. They only produced one goal during that streak.

Looking Ahead

Fagner and Cassio Ramos got awarded with a spot in the Brazilian squad for the World Cup. Both players are back now and expected to regain their starting spots.

Maycon left the club recently to play for Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine and manager Osmar Loss will have to come up with a solution as a result. The recovered Rene Junior is now expected to compete the midfield.

New signing Danilo Avelar is set to make his team debut. The full-back is set to cover for Sidcley who left the club during the World Cup break.

Points of Interest

Corinthians only managed to bag more than one goal once in their last eight games in front of the own crowd.

In Brief

Alberto Valentim left the club, Marcos Paqueta is the new coach in charge. Joel Carli is set to regain his starting spot. Several doubts and injuries could affect the performance. Gatito remains unavailable, Jefferson will start between the posts.

Looking Back

Botafogo's campaign thus far hasn't been that impressive, but there's light at the end of the tunnel. Marcos Paqueta, who took over over from Alberto Valentim, will get the chance now to close the gap with the top six.

The form towards the World Cup break wasn't that terrible to be honest as Botafogo managed to collected eight points out of the last four matches. They're unbeaten in the last four games, which should provide them with confidence.

Looking Ahead

Goalkeeper Gatito is still struggling with a hand injury, which isn't an ideal situation at all as he's expected to miss the next matches as well. The experienced Jefferson is a more than decent replacement though and he's now set to start again.

Joel Carli missed the last game before the World Cup break, but he's expected top regain his starting spot in the heart of the defence for this one.

Several players are struggling with minor injuries at the moment, which could result in a tough puzzle for Paqueta on match day. The line-up is still a bit of a question mark with that in mind.

Yago won't be able to start due to an agreement with Corinthians as the defender teamed up with Botafogo on loan from the Sao Paulo side. Gilson is expected to complete the defence as a result.

Points of Interest

Botafogo only managed to record one win in the last eight away matches on the road.
