Stoke in narrow win over Blackburn. Could have keeper issues with Bursik cup tied but Lonergan is fit.

Looking Back

Stoke have not been pretty of late but defensively magnificent and proved it again with a 1-0 victory against freescoring Blackburn on Saturday.

Whilst the defence has been superb they are not threatening in attack, failing to score more than one goal in any of the last seven matches, the absence of Tyrese Campbell being an obvious factor in that lack of form in attack.

Home form in the league has been pretty good with five wins.

Looking Ahead

Will have to make a change in goal with Joe Bursik, so impressive recently, unable to play as he is cup tied. With Adam Davies, Angus Gunn and Niki Maenpaa all out, Andy Lonergan could make his debut after shaking off non-Covid illness. However Blondy Nna Noukeu is also being considered.

Campbell remains out injured while Joe Allen, Sam Clucas and Lee Gregory are also still missing. John Obi Mikel is also missing with Stoke unlikely to make many changes.

Angry after back-to-back league defeats. Rotation likely. Tanganga and Lamela sidelined. Lo Celso fresh concern.

Looking Back

Tottenham lost 0:2 at home vs. Leicester on Sunday with this arguably the team’s poorest display thus far. Lilywhites were kept quiet and defensively they made bad errors in second consecutive match.

Just 2 weeks ago Tottenham topped Premier League table, but 2 consecutive defeats saw them drop out of top 4 altogether and players looked pretty angry near end of Leicester game.

Only League Cup game played so far was tough London-derby vs. Chelsea which Spurs won on penalties after equalising right at the death.

Looking Ahead

Coach Mourinho aims for big things in Premier League and with that in mind he’s expected to be resting many regulars. Spurs still have impressive supporting players though and all of Doherty, Winks, Bale, Moura and Alli itching for chance to shine.

Lo Celso picked up knock at weekend and might miss, while both Tanganga and Lamela remain sidelined.

Manager Comments

Jose Mourinho has said he will field “a mixture” of his usual Premier League and Europa League sides for Tottenham’s Carabao Cup quarter-final at Stoke.
