Paris St Germain

In Brief

PSG will wait on both Neymar and Mbappe. Verratti and Herrera out. Performances have been mixed this season.

Looking Back

PSG struggled to overcome Brest 2-1 away from home immediately before the international break, with Mauro Icardi decisive for them once more after coming off the bench.

Continued a recent trend of not hitting their top form: before that match they lost 2-1 against lowly Dijon and were only able to overcome a modest Brugge side 1-0 at home.

Did rotate their side significantly before the international break, with even goalkeeper Sergio Rico afford some match time.

Looking Ahead

Kylian Mbappe has been ill this week and did not train on Tuesday. While he was initially expected to be available for this match, PSG may choose to restrict his participation even if he’s fit to make the squad.

Neymar continues to build his fitness following a thigh problem. He should be ready to take part against Real Madrid in the Champions League next week and the latest signs are he may even be available here.

Marco Verratti (knee), Andre Herrera (quads), Thomas Meunier (thigh), Thilo Kehrer (foot) and Eric Choupo-Moting (back) are all issues. Verratti and Herrera have been ruled out.

Points of Interest

Mauro Icardi should benefit from being frozen out of the national team to start this game. He has been outstanding for PSG in the centre-forward role, which is now his to lose.

In Brief

Lille without star forward Osimhen due to ban. Ikone and Soumare are both fit. Bamba out. Poor away.

Looking Back

Lille endured a difficult spell before the international break, which concluded with a rather disappointing scoreless draw at home against Metz.

Christophe Galtier’s side have won only one of their last nine competitive fixtures – that a 3-0 success over Bordeaux.

Playing away from home has been a major achilles heel for LOSC this season: they have yet to win on their travels, with only two draws from six Ligue 1 away fixtures.

Lille have lost coaches Joao Sacramento and Nuno Santos to Jose Mourinho at Tottenham, leaving head coach Galtier "p***ed off and annoyed".

Looking Ahead

Jonathan Ikone, a former PSG youth, and Boubakary Soumare both missed France Under-21s’ match in Switzerland due to injuries but are in the squad.

Another former PSG youngster, Tim Weah is sidelined due to ongoing hamstring trouble.

Top scorer Victor Osimhen, who has seven of their 18 league goals and is the fourth leading marksman in the division, is banned. Loic Remy will start in attack.

Jonathan Bamba is ill and misses out, while Adama Soumaoro is out injured.

Points of Interest

Lille will have to be careful with their squad in the coming week; they will play nine matches in the space of a month – a challenge they are not used to.
