Liverpool

Last updated: Sat 10 August 2019 00:46
In Brief

Lost Community Shield match last weekend, but big goal this season winning Premier League title. Minimal transfer activity. Clyne long-term absentee. Mane slight doubt. Milner fully fit.

Looking Back

Liverpool had mixed results in pre-season disrupted by constant absence of 5-6 first team players due to international commitments. Origi was used a lot in those games and he should be seeing much more playing time this season.

No major new arrivals or departures this summer.

Last weekend lost Community Shield vs. Man City on penalties after shared dominance in each half saw 90 minutes ending 1:1.

Looking Ahead

Coach Klopp gave Mane extended holiday after his extortions with Senegal and as he is only just back to training start on Friday seems unlikely. Origi favourite to take his place.

Salah looks hungry, he had more shots on goal than entire Man City team last weekend.

Milner nursed minor muscle issue, but was passed fit on time.

Points of Interest

Without home league defeat in 2 consecutive seasons! Last league loss at Anfield in April 2017.

In Brief

Promoted as champions and ambitions are high. Play open modern football with German manager and 10 German players in squad. Klose, Zimmermann and Tettey ruled out. Vrancic slight doubt.

Looking Back

Convincingly gained promotion as champions last season and manager kept fate in players that achieved that. Only a few experienced new names joining team in summer and no major departures.

Like to play modern counter-pressing football, which sees them score a lot, but also being caught at the back at times.

On loan from Man City winger Roberts impressed in pre-season, scored 4 goals and provided 1 assist.

Looking Ahead

Coach Farke without important centre-backs Zimmermann and Klose. Holding midfielder Tettey also start season out injured.

Last season’s highest scoring midfielder Vrancic (10 goals) missed most of summer injured, but back in training now and even if not ready to start should be involved.

Points of Interest

Last season carried serious threat from set pieces in lower division. Centre-backs scored 7 goals after dead-ball deliveries.
