Watford

In Brief

Awful start to season provoked sacking of coach Gracia during international break. Sanchez Flores returns as head coach of Hornets. Captain Deeney and Cathcart sidelined. Capoue back after sickness.

Looking Back

Watford earned first point on visit to Newcastle, but this wasn’t enough to save Gracia’s job. Spaniard sacked during international break and his countryman Quique Sanchez Flores appointed for his second spell as Watford manager.

Yet to score more than 1 goal in league match, while at same time 8 goals conceded already and clearly improvement needed at both ends of pitch.

Looking Ahead

Coach Flores familiar with many of the players and knowing his favouring of technically gifted players snubbed recently Pereyra and Deulofeu should be used much more from now on.

Captain Deeney only sidelined player, with Capoue using international break to recover from illness.

Cathcart returned injured from international duty and he is set to miss next 2-3 weeks. This might see long-forgotten Prodl given chance, Austrian 1 of only 6 players that were part of squad back in 2016 when Flores was in charge for first time.

Points of Interest

There have been just 1 draw in 25 previous matches between sides – 11 wins Watford and 13 for Arsenal.

Arsenal

In Brief

Dropped points in last 2 rounds and getting back to winning ways priority. Lacazette, Tierney, Bellerin and Mavropanos sidelined. Holding doubtful. Wilock, Xhaka and Torreira fresh concerns.

Looking Back

Arsenal frustrated in derby vs. Tottenham, but at same time fortunate to come from 0:2 down and save draw.

Without win in 2 games against ‘Big Six’ rivals means that Gunners need to be perfect in all other fixtures in order to stay close to the top.

Looking Ahead

Coach Emery not happy that all of Wilock, Xhaka and Torreira had sustained injuries while on international duty, but at least first 2 seem likely to feature. Lacazette needs break due to ankle issue and he is ruled until October!

Still missing 3 defenders, while Holding only just resumed training and most likely will need several more weeks before ready to feature.

Points of Interest

Aubameyang has scored in 2 of last 3 matches vs. Watford.
