Southampton

Last updated: Mon 07 October 2019 07:53
In Brief

Missed great opportunity to earn points vs. ten-man Tottenham. Single point earned at home so far. Djenepo and Soares set to miss, but no long-term absentees.

Looking Back

Saints must feel frustrated to lose 1:2 on visit to Tottenham after playing for more than an hour against ten men and also being gifted an equaliser in the first half.

The season so far has been of ups and downs and it’s never sure what face Southampton will show.

Already have 4 away wins (2 of those in League Cup) and all 4 of those accompanied by clean sheets. At same time single point earned from 3 home matches so far and yet to keep clean sheet in own stadium.

Looking Ahead

Coach Hasenhuttl saw Soares pulling out of last game after injury during warm up, with Djenepo also fighting back to fitness after groin injury. Both of them will be absent this weekend.

Che Adams started 6 of opening 7 league games, but he is yet to score since joining in summer and this might be second game in a row he sits out.

Points of Interest

Awful record vs. Chelsea in recent years – 0 wins, 1 draw and 6 defeats! Also only 1 point earned from last 5 home matches vs. Blues.

Chelsea

Last updated: Mon 07 October 2019 07:53
In Brief

Continue to have defensive issues, but going forward impressive. Needed Champions League achieved in France in midweek. Rudiger, Emerson and Loftus-Cheek set to miss.

Looking Back

Chelsea were under pressure to beat Lille away from home on Wednesday after losing their opening Champions League match and despite riding their luck at times and not scoring the decider until very late Blues able to win 2:1.

Premier League form also decent with only defeat in last 6 rounds vs. leaders Liverpool.

No problems going forward, scored 2 or more in 7 of 11 matches this season, but defending remains suspect and only 1 clean sheet kept in those 11 games.

Looking Ahead

Coach Lampard needs to assess the condition of his players after midweek and at least 2-3 changes compared to squad that started on Wednesday likely. Christensen, Kovacic and Pedro some of those expecting to start now.

Rudiger, Emerson and Loftus-Cheek remain sidelined.

Mount started 3 games in 7 days and he might be given rest this weekend. Fit-again Hudson-Odoi pushing to replace him.

Points of Interest

Chelsea have scored the most goals inside final 15 minutes of first halves in Premier League, 4 already.
