In Brief

Remain inside the drop zone after losing to Ipswich. Set to take on Watford in a postponed third round replay that was supposed to be played last week. Darren Potter, George Ray and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy remain doubtful.

Looking Back

Tranmere remain inside the League One relegation zone after suffering a 2:1 home defeat to Ipswich in a game in which they lead at half-time.

Their recent form has been poor, with the absolute highlight of their recent weeks being their previous game versus Watford, where they came back from three goals behind to force a replay.

Looking Ahead

They were supposed to take the Hornest last Tuesday, but the game was called off due to weather conditions.

Their pitch was also in a less than stellar state against Ipswich, making it hard for both teams to move the ball around. This could prove an advantage against the more technical Hornets.

Micky Mellon has no new selection issues to contend with, but Darren Potter, George Ray and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy remain doubtful with their respective injuries.

Points of Interest

Tranmere have won their most recent two home games against Watford, but these games were played in 1998 and 2000, when this was a Championship fixture.

In Brief

Coming off damaging league defeat on Tuesday. Heavy rotation certain. Welbeck could be back. Janmaat, Femenia, Sarr and Hughes amongst sidelined players.

Looking Back

Watford returned in relegation zone in Premier League on Tuesday night after conceding deep in stoppage-time to lose 1:2 on visit to Aston Villa. Everyone involved spent huge amounts of energy in this nervy match.

Prior last game enjoyed 7-game unbeaten run in all competitions (W4 D3), but players still feeling ashamed after throwing away 3:0 lead in first match vs. Tranmere that brought this replay.

Looking Ahead

Coach Pearson has less than 48 hours between games and he almost certainly will rotate entire starting XI for this match. Welbeck expected to make return from injury in game.

Still missing 6 sidelined players, but some bright youngsters eager to take their chance in this one. Most notably Joao, Quina and Dele-Bashiru expected to play vs. Tranmere.
