Chelsea

In Brief

Form and results poor for some time. Badly need inspiring display and big result. Top scorer Abraham, Pulisic and Kante sidelined. Christensen major doubt. Jorginho suspended.

Looking Back

Chelsea disappointed once again when held to 2:2 draw on visit to strugglers Bournemouth. Alonso’s brace saved late point for Blues, who once again looked extremely shaky at the back.

Both previous FA Cup games against lower league teams.

Form of most players poor in 2020, with James, Mount and Christensen particularly prone to errors and individual mishaps in recent weeks.

Looking Ahead

Coach Lampard desperately needs big result and in search of it he could look at more experienced group of players for this one. Rudiger, Barkley, Willian and Pedro are all potential starters.

Jorginho will be bitterly missed from heart of midfield due to ban, while 3 other regulars nurse injuries. Kante and Pulisic remain in rehabilitation, while top scorer Abraham out indefinitely. On top of that Christensen likely to miss game too.

Manager Comments

‘The FA Cup is a huge competition, evening games bring about a different atmosphere, and when you draw something like Liverpool it should be the game you all want to be involved in.’

Liverpool

Last updated: Tue 03 March 2020 08:53
In Brief

Stunned at weekend in first league defeat in 13 months – 0:3 away loss vs. Watford. Captain Henderson sidelined. Keita doubtful. Gomez and Milner passed fit.

Looking Back

Liverpool have dropped just 2 points in first 27 rounds this season, but on Saturday they offered by far their poorest display on visit to Watford and were deservedly beaten 0:3. Hardly any attacking threat combined with sloppy defending brought the downfall.

In FA Cup so far used mostly teenagers, but expected to take competition much more seriously from now on.

Back in September able to edge Chelsea 2:1 in London in league match that saw Alexander-Arnold and Firmino scoring the goals.

Looking Ahead

Coach Klopp without Gomez and Keita at weekend, but former over illness and returns to squad now. Also Milner passed fit, while captain Henderson amongst 3 long-term absentees.

Teenager Jones has scored 2 FA Cup goals already, but he is unlikely to start fourth consecutive game in this competition.
