Sheffield United

Last updated: Sun 28 June 2020 06:04
In Brief

Form very poor since season resumed. FA Cup might be best chance to qualify for Europe. O'Connell and Mousset doubtful. Henderson and Egan welcomed back. Empty stands.

Looking Back

Blades suffered second consecutive 0:3 defeat on Wednesday when hammered on visit to Man United. From the off serious problems in defence and complete lack of attacking threat doomed Sheffield.

Already played 3 league games since season resumed and they failed to score in all 3 of those matches, earning just 1 point. Squad definitely not looking as sharp as it did before season was interrupted.

This will be first home game without fans and sensation might be a bit strange for some of players.

Luck helped with draw so far in FA Cup, this first clash against top flight opponents.

Looking Ahead

Coach Wilder cherishes FA Cup as great opportunity to establish Blades even further as factor in English football and he’s expected to select very strong squad.

Returning from ban Egan and eligible again Henderson expected to start. Mousset picked up knock in midweek though and together with ailing for several weeks O’Connell he faces late fitness test.

Points of Interest

Positive results in both league clashes vs. Arsenal this season – 1:0 home win in October and 1:1 away draw in January.

Arsenal

In Brief

FA Cup best chance to win silverware. Improved display offered on Thursday. Leno and Torreira amongst absentees, but Xhaka and Sokratis welcomed back. Also David Luiz back from ban.

Looking Back

Arsenal didn’t have easy ride in FA Cup up to now, but despite some scares able to go through all 3 rounds without even needing replays. Eliminated Leeds (1:0), Bournemouth (2:1) and Portsmouth (2:0) on the way.

Young Nketiah scored in last 2 rounds of FA Cup + he scored on Thursday in 2:0 away league win vs. Southampton.

Youngsters Wilock, Saka and Pepe showing constantly improving form after restart.

Looking Ahead

Coach Arteta takes this competition very seriously and he’s expected to select strong squad. Benched on Thursday Lacazette could lead attack instead of in-form teenager Nketiah.

Defence also could be revamped with returning from ban Luiz and fit-again Sokratis and Cedric options to start.

Still missing Leno, Torreira and several others due to injuries.
