Game Report

Highlights

Harvey Barnes came off the bench to score a sensational winner as Leicester overcame Sheffield United. Oliver McBurnie had cancelled out Jamie Vardy's opener but Barnes' ferocious volley proved decisive.

Detail

Both sides struggled to create chances for the majority of the first half. Defences were well marshalled and attacks were restricted to long range efforts.

A combination of lazy play on the ball from Chris Basham and good pressing from Ayoze Perez to win it back led to the opening goal. James Maddison's brilliant pass with the outside of his foot played in Vardy who rifled the ball in.

Sheffield United brought on Billy Sharp and McBurnie early in the second half and they both made a difference with their presence in the box. McBurnie glanced in George Baldock's cross to make it 1-1.

It was a Leicester substitute who would swing the game back in their favour. Barnes arrived onto a dropping ball with a fierce first-time volley which crashed into the net.

The Blades pushed for an equaliser with more crosses into the box and one almost paid off. Sharp nodded the ball across to John Lundstram whose volley was kept out by a stunning reaction save from Kasper Schmeichel.

Summary

Plenty of effort and endeavour from Sheffield United but not enough quality in the final third. Leicester were clinical with their finishing to claim victory.
