Game Report

Highlights

Arsenal produced a rousing comeback to earn a point against bitter rivals Tottenham Hostspur. Individual errors from the Gunners gifted Spurs a 2-0 lead but Alexandre Lacazette's goal just before half-time turned the tide and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang equalised.

Detail

Arsenal started with Aubameyang, Lacazette and new boy Nicolas Pepe together for the first time. They were purposeful going forward in the early stages but once again, their defending would let them down.

Tottenham opened the scoring with their first real attack. Sokratis was caught out of position and Bernd Leno only pushed out Erik Lamela's shot to Christian Eriksen for a tap-in.

Heung-Min Son was a constant threat for the visitors. He was caught in the box by a reckless tackle from Granit Xhaka and Kane stuck away the resultant penalty.

Big moment just before half-time as the Gunners got themselves back into contention. A couple of great touches in the box by Lacazette were followed by an emphatic finish.

Arsenal were dominant in the early stages of the second half - putting the visiting backline under increased pressure. Dani Ceballos' introduction from the bench added a new dynamic to the attack - both he and Matteo Guendouzi forced saves from Hugo Lloris.

Guendouzi was excellent for the hosts and he provided a delightful lofted pass which Aubameyang prodded into the net for 2-2.

Either side could have won it in a breathless finish. Kane smacked the post for Spurs whilst Sokratis was denied a goal with the aid of VAR.

Summary

Great spirit shown by Arsenal to fight back and they looked the more likely team to win it in the second half but defensive errors will continue to concern Unai Emery. Frustration for Tottenham having surrendered their lead but they were hanging on at times in the second half so they'll take a point.
