Game Report

Highlights

Norwich City produced the shock of the season so far with a stunning win over champions Manchester City. The Canaries were excellent all round and took advantage of a careless City defence.

Detail

It looked like business as usual with the champions dominating the early possession but they switched off on Norwich's first corner of the game. Kenny McLean rose unchallenged to head in Emiliano Buendia's delivery.

The hosts worked hard all across the pitch to press Manchester City and remained well organised defensively. Ibrahim Amadou was particularly impressive playing an unfamiliar role in the back four.

The Canaries used their solid base along with their skill going forward to spring a counter-attack. Buendia started it and Teemu Pukki cleverly found Todd Cantwell in a better position to finish.

Once again, it looked as though normal service would be resumed when City got a goal back on the stroke of half-time. Aguero got free in the box to head in Bernardo Silva's cross.

The champions shot themselves in the foot defensively at the start of the second half. Nicolas Otamendi was robbed on the edge of his own box by the excellent Buendia who teed up Pukki to score.

Rodri pulled a late goal back for the visitors but it was to prove just a consolation as Norwich held on doggedly for the win.

Summary

An outstanding performance from Norwich who showed bravery going forward and grit at the back to secure a famous victory. Manchester City were woeful defensively at times and the absence of Aymeric Laporte was keenly felt.
