Bournemouth secured their first ever win away at south coast rivals Southampton. The Cherries dominated the first half and deservedly led 2-0 before James Ward-Prowse pulled one back from the penalty spot but a defensive howler allowed Callum Wilson to kill the game.
An aggressive start for the visitors was epitomised by Nathan Ake's opening goal. The defender attacked Diego Rico's corner with real purpose and headed it into the net.
Southampton were completely off the pace in the first half and their static defence was being opened up repeatedly. They were relieved to see VAR come to their rescue for a tight offside call when Josh King fired in from Dominic Solanke's through-ball.
Bournemouth were playing some really slick and free-flowing football. They got a deserved second when Harry Wilson slotted in Philip Billing's cut-back.
Ryan Bertrand came on at half-time for the Saints and they were more dangerous down his left hand side. Che Adams raced into the box and was clumsily fouled by Steve Cook for a penalty which Ward-Prowse slammed in.
The hosts pressed for an equaliser but a calamity at the back cost them. Jan Bednarek and Angus Gunn got in each other's way - allowing Wilson to steal in and score.
Southampton were poor in the first half and although they improved slightly after the break, they were lucky to be in contention and deservedly lost in the end. Bournemouth were by far the better side overall and took their chances well.
