Game Report

Highlights

Charlton hold a 2:1 advantage going into the return leg of their League One play-off semifinal clash with Doncaster. Two quickfire first-half goals by the Addics proved decisive, but there was little separating the sides and the Rovers scored late on through Matty Blair to maintain hope going into the return leg.

Detail

The sides exchanged blows in the early stages, with the hosts coming closest when Danny Andrew struck the bar with a free-kick.

However, Charlton took control of the tie with two goals in three minutes. Lyle Taylor was the star, first scoring himself and then setting up Joe Aribo for the Addics' second.

Predictably, Doncaster pushed forward in numbers after the side change, but both sides were reduced to half-chances.

The hosts' pressure finally paid off on 87 minutes, when Blair scored a scrambled goal.

The Rovers kept pushing forward in numbers in the remainder of the game but a leveler proved beyond them.

Summary

The sides were pretty evenly matched over the ninety minutes and the game could have gone either way. While capable of bright performances on their travels, Charlton now have to be considered favourites to reach Wembley, both due to the result of this game and their overall form.
