Game Report

Highlights

Midfielder Bez Lubala continued his impressive start to the season with a fabulous free-kick as Crawley Town claimed a 1-1 draw with Macclesfield Town at the Moss Rose. Defender Theo Vassell had given the Silkmen a first-half lead.

Detail

The first half was a lively and even contest with the home side threatening first through winger Theo Archibald. He failed to test visiting goalkeeper Glenn Morris but they did make the breakthrough midway through the half.

A short-corner routine seemed to catch out the visitors as midfielder Connor Kirby's cross found Vassell, who forced the ball home from close range.

It was some dopey defending from the Red Devils and were kept at arms by a dogged home defence which saw their frustrations grew in the second half.

It needed something special and Lubala provided it, curling a delightful free-kick into the roof of the net; giving home goalkeeper Owen Evans no chance.

They might have gone on to win it had striker Ollie Palmer brought his shooting boots but he blazed wide from a rebound after Evans had done well to parry a shot from Lubala.

Summary

Gabrielle Cioffi has found a real gem in Lubala and he ensured their came away with a deserved point from this contest. They weren't at their best whilst Macclesfield Town are still adjusting to life under new boss Daryl McMahon.
