United kept the title race alive with a 1-0 win against Ross County at Tannadice. Callum Butcher scored with an early header that proved to be the only goal of the game. The game was largely a midfield battle with few clear chances. United deserved their win as County's six-match unbeaten run came to an end.
A motivated United immediately took the game to County and scored within seven minutes. Callum Butcher's near-post header put the hosts in front.
After the early excitement the game was played in the middle of the park with neither goalkeeper being tested. Lindsay came close to an equaliser for County, but it remained 1-0 until the interval.
Ross Stewart had an early chance for County in the second half but Siegrist saved well. United's attack suffered another loss as Peter Pawlett limped off and was replaced by Cammy Smith.
Nicky Clark should have put the game beyond County but failed to beat Scott Fox in a one-on-one contest. However, it didn't matter as United saw out the rest of the game with relative ease.
A rugged performance from United kept them in the title race. Considering the absences of Sow and Safranko up front it was an impressive win. County missed their chance to put a major claim on the title. They were found wanting up front and maybe their heavy schedule is beginning to hurt them.
