Football Season Review

№7: ADO Den Haag

ADO Den Haag's 2017-2018 season turned out into a success as manager Alfons Groenendijk performed better with his men than expected. The team from The Hague was expected to fight for a mid-table finish, while possible relegation pressure could affect the displays as well, but that wasn't the case at all. ADO Den Haag managed to avoid any problems and they even sealed a ticket for the Europa League play-offs by recording a crucial 2-3 win over Roda JC on the last day of the season. The win in Kerkrade resulted in the seventh spot, which is something to be proud of for this club. The play-offs proved to be a bridge too far though as ADO Den Haag recorded two defeats (2-5 and 2-1) in the semi-final against Vitesse. This was a bit unlucky, but ADO Den Haag showed their qualities this season, but more importantly, they managed to seal a better finishing spot than expected. Most players performed well, but a new signing like Bjorn Johnsen even managed to push the performances to a higher level. The Norwegian striker, who came over from Heart of Midlothian at the start of the season, bagged nineteen goals in the Eredivisie, which was a great achievement. Club icons and local fan favourites like Tom Beugelsdijk, Robert Zwinkels, Aaron Meijers and Lex Immers showed their best football as well, which resulted in an ideal mix on the pitch. It will be extremely tough to repeat the seventh position next year to be honest as ADO recorded the maximum result this year.
