Football Season Review

№8: Borussia Monchengladbach

Borussia Mochengladbach were unable to live up to the heights of the previous season, they finished a disappointing 8th place and outside of the European places. Despite an opening day defeat to Dortmund, the Foals embarked on an impressive run, losing just 2 of the following 18 games. Too many draws made it difficult to compete with the front runners but there were some strong performances, especially in the home victories against Bayern and Dortmund. It was in February the news broke that coach Rose would leave the club at the end of the season and join rivals Dortmund. This was to have a negative effect on results and Gladbach won just 5 of their remaining 16 games. Inconsistency, poor defensive performances and their inability to hold on to leads became a problem. Gladbach did enjoy a run into the last 16 of the Champions League but that was to be the highlight of their campaign. Not many players stood out over the course of the season but Hofmann and Stindl scored some important goals along the way. Gladbach have yet to appoint a new coach for next season and will need to do so quickly. They have some work to do in order to get the club back fighting for the top four again and investment in new players will be needed.

Player of the Season: Lars Stindl
