Football Season Review

№2: RB Leipzig

RB Leizpig matched their best ever finish by ending the campaign second in the league table though a dip in form late in the season meant they once again missed out on silverware. Leipzig were missing their pointman in the attack following Timo Werner's departure but Nagelsmann weaved together a solid attacking unit around Sabitzer, Olmo and Nkunku all of whom chipped in with crucial goals and assists, especially in the first half of the season with Leipzig quickly emerging as serious challengers to Bayern Munchen. However, lack of consistency in the second half of the season proved to be costly for Leipzig with the club winning just three times in their final 10 league games to drop out of the title race. They did book a place in the DFB Cup final for a second time in three years but once again failed to cross the final hurdle, suffering a heavy defeat to Borussia Dortmund. With Naglesmann Bayern bound at the end of the season, Leipzig have appointed Jesse Marsch as his replacement. The former RB Salzburg coach will be hoping that he will be able to refresh the squad with some of the loan players expected to leave come the end of the season though Leipzig have all the ingredients to once again challenge Bayern for the top spot next season.

Player of the Season: Dani Olmo
