Football Season Review

№9: VFB Stuttgart

Stuttgart more than held their own in what was a solid first season back in the top flight. They produced some entertaining football, eventually gaining a top half finish. Stuttgart produced some eye-catching performances, especially in the first-half of the campaign, they were particularly impressive on the road, with the highlight being a 5-1 away thrashing of Dortmund.  As good as they were on their travels, Stuttgart struggled initially at home, failing to win any of their first 8 on their own patch. Coach Matarazzo had his side playing with freedom, they were not afraid to attack their opponents and their good blend of youth and experience worked well. Results dipped towards the end of the season but overall they can be pleased with their progress.  Austrian striker Kalajdzic hit the ground running in the second-half of the campaign, scoring 11 times in the final 16 matches. Wamangutika and Gonzalez were also standout performers until injury cut short their campaign. There is no reason why Stuttgart can't go higher next season, Matarazzo may need to trim down his rather large squad during the summer but has lots of youthful talent in the ranks, this should hold them in good stead for the future.

Player of the Season: Sasa Kalajdzic
