Ajax U21 start the season with the aim of improving their overall structure, showing better football across the boars and being able to bring more genuine quality to the first team. The last two years have not been good enough from the Amsterdam youngsters as they spent them mostly near the bottom of the standings and delivered only the occasional eye-catching performance. Most notably, the pipeline to the first-team has notably slowed down and there is almost no one from the squads in the past couple of seasons that looks ready to contribute to the seniors. Now Willem Weijs has been given the task to make this more appealing to the locals and more successful in the standings. His resume is not one that really catches the eye as he fumbled with FC Eindhoven in 2023-24 before getting sacked at the end of the campaign. Yet he has worked well with youth sides before and cannot be much worse than Frank Penebeoom. The squad is ready to be refreshed with some additions from the under-age groups and players Jahyendrow Amour, Emre Ünüvar, Mylo van der Lans, Lasse Abildgaard and Avery Appiah could be ready to step into a bigger role in the campaign ahead. Some prominent members of the team from last year in Julian Rijkhoff, Precious Ugwu and Julian Brandes have been allowed to leave on loan or permanently but there is a fair amount of continuity in the squad as well.

Target

Being a more competitive side higher up the standings.
