AZ U21 were once again the most impressive of the youth sides last season in the second division as their brand of explosive and attack-first football produced some glitzy performances and eye-catching wins against teams that were battling for the top places and have a lot more quality. Now the aim for the team from Alkmaar is to once again deliver entertaining football and keep on brining in players to the first team after Kees Smith, Ernest Poku, Wouter Goes and Mexx Meerdink made the step up to the senior squad last season. Now the star of last season, Ro-Zangelo Daal is also set to join with the senior squad full time and leave the U21s with quite limited alternatives in the attacking third. The current crop is a pretty strong one too and there is no reason for Lee-Roy Ecthold and his men to be optimistic for the season ahead. Players like Wassim Bouzzine, Saviola Simons and Julian Operip are tipped for big things inside the club and the hopes are that they start to get more meaningful minutes and have tangible impact.

Target

Keep the positive momentum from the last couple of seasons and once again finish in the higher end of mid-table.
