Since returning to the Ligue 2 in 2020, Amiens have dreamt of being protagonists of French football again but they never came close to it. The past season represented another disappointment: they did well until early October, while sitting in second place, but then a slow and unstoppable fall followed, bringing them back to mediocrity and causing Coach Philippe Hinschberger's sacking in April. His replacement, Patrice Descamps, failed to impress. A new coach was thus hired over the summer: Omar Daf had a poor campaign at Dijon last season but his previous years at Sochaux convinced Amiens that he will be capable of leading them back among the top teams. Last season, Amiens held one of the worst attacks and one of the worst defences of the Ligue: at the moment, things are still a work in progress at the back. In fact, while starting centre-back Mendy left for pastures new, possibly one year too late, erratic Opoku also is on the departure list. Urhoghide and Kaiboue, coming off positive campaigns at Oostende and Bastia respectively, could become protagonists in the new season. At left-back, Daf is expecting for a new arrival as starting Xantippe was let go while Ring has left no mark yet and Ouattara is still too young. On the other hand, experienced Corchia should solve their problems on the right. In the midfield, Gomis departed for Turkish football after a stuttering campaign and he was not replaced, yet. With their top scorer, Cissé, now in the wrong side of his 30s, they made a wise move signing Mafouta, who had an excellent season at Quevilly.

Target

Amiens should make the top 10 but a lot depends on the next departures.
